Strikethrough is the "I said it, but, like, ironically" move — c̶r̶o̶s̶s̶e̶d̶ ̶o̶u̶t̶ but still readable. Plenty of apps don't give you the option (Instagram bios, most of X, lots of Discord contexts), so this slips a combining strike mark onto each character and the line comes along for the ride when you paste. There's also a slashed variant (a diagonal line instead of a horizontal one) for a slightly different look, and underline since the two often go together. The usual fine print for combining-mark styles: it renders a touch differently per device — on some phones the line sits a little high — and a couple of apps handle spaces between struck words oddly, so glance at the output first. Best for short stuff: a word, a phrase, a fake "correction" joke. A whole struck-through paragraph is a pain to read.

Where it renders, and where it breaks

Strikethrough is a combining-mark style, so the line's exact position depends on the rendering font. It travels well in bios and messages; it does not survive username fields or game name filters.

All of these are real Unicode characters, not images or font files, so the styling travels with the text wherever you paste it. The catch: a few apps with locked-down fonts will draw some glyphs as empty boxes — that's the receiving app, not the text, and switching styles fixes it. Bold (sans), Small Caps and Full-width render the widest. Checked May 2026; platforms change their font handling constantly, so treat the table below as a strong guide, not a guarantee. Examples & use cases

The crossed-out move, where it works:

• The ironic 'correction' joke — n̶o̶t̶ ̶m̶a̶d̶ totally fine — strike the first version, follow it with the "real" one. Reads as a bit ironic, a bit self-aware.
• A bio that's a little tongue-in-cheek — p̶r̶o̶f̶e̶s̶s̶i̶o̶n̶a̶l̶ chaos coordinator — a struck word in a bio sets a casual tone. Keep it to a word or two.
• Marking something as 'done' in a list — In editors with no strikethrough button, a struck line reads as completed/cancelled — handy in a flat notes app.
• Slashed instead of struck — If you want a diagonal line rather than a horizontal one, pick Slashed from the dropdown — d̸i̸f̸f̸e̸r̸e̸n̸t̸ vibe, same combining-mark trick.
• Strikethrough on bold text — Make it bold first, then strike that. Keep the stacking shallow — long mark chains render badly and get truncated in some apps.

Common mistakes

• Don't worry about the line sitting slightly high on one phone. Combining marks are placed by the device font, so the strike line's exact position varies. Cosmetic, device-dependent, nothing the tool can change.
• Don't strike through a whole paragraph. It's a pain to read and bad for screen readers. A word, a phrase, a fake correction — that's the right scale for this.
• Don't use it in a username. Username fields reject combining marks. For a name, use a non-combining style — bold sans or full-width.
• Don't reach for this inside a Discord message. Use Discord's own ~~strikethrough~~ there — it's cleaner. This Unicode version is for the places Discord's markdown doesn't reach: nicknames, statuses, bots, custom fields.
